Association History
 
 

     The PCHS Alumni Association is organized to maintain and enhance the friendship among alumni, to help develop our alma mater, to carry on the good tradition of our alma mater, and to serve the community.

 

     The PCHS Alumni Association was established in 1937, with Mr. Go Seng Guan as the first president. He was later succeeded by Mr. Kong Kuan. During their terms, Mr. Go and Mr. Kong assisted in organizing the Board of Trustees, and in constructing the first school building along Jose Abad Santos Street (the present site of the main campus), fostering an example of alumni’s love and support for the development of our alma mater, as well as a deep concern for the Chinese education.

 

     From 1942 to 1960, from the time of the Japanese occupation and even after the war, the activities of the Alumni Association were suspended due to the uncertainties of the times.

 

     In 1960, the PCHS Alumni Coordinating Committee was created with Mr. Marcos Chua as the committee chairman. A 10,000 square meter lot in Caloocan City (the present site of the Annex Campus) was acquired through donations form generous individuals. In 1966, the construction of the Annex Campus began with the concerted efforts of the Board of Trustees and the Alumni Association.

 

     The Alumni Association was re-organized in 1976, with Dr. Chuang Chong Chian as the president from 1976-1980. Registration of the alumni was conducted. The Alumni Association immediately assisted the Board of Trustees in completing the last phase of construction of the Annex Campus.

 

     Mr. Ang Cheng Tionsu served as the president for two terms, 1980-1984. The first phase of the reconstruction of the Main Campus building was done during his term.

 

     Ms. Elena Cu-Uy-Gam served as the president from 1984-1986. During her term, the second phase of the reconstruction was completed. It was during this time when the Cebu chapter of the Alumni Association was established.

 

     Mr. John Tan served as the president from 1986-1990. During his term, the Main Campus reconstruction project was completed; An Odyssey was staged; the fund raising campaign for the mutual aid fund for faculty and staff was launched; several alumni chapters were established, such as the US East Coast Chapter, the Northeast Luzon Chapter, and the Hong Kong Chapter; the cultural presentation “The Blooming Sunflowers” was staged in celebration of our alma mater’s 67th Foundation Day.

 

     Ms. Mary Lim served as the president from 1990-1992. During his term, D’ Twinkling Little Stars was staged; the Canada Chapter and the Beijing Chapter of the Alumni Association were established. Members of the Alumni Association attended the inauguration of these two chapters.

 

     Mr. Eduardo Chua served as the president form 1992-1994. “Salinlahi” was staged in celebration of the alma mater’s 70th Foundation Day. In 1994, the PCHS Dance Troupe went on a goodwill tour of Beijing, Quanzhou, and Xiamen.

 

     Ms. Pilar Ongking served as the president from 1994-1996. During her term, the construction of the Kindergarten Building in the Annex Campus was started and completed.

 

     Dr. Tan King King served as the president from 1996-1998. During her term, the financial assistance program for the poor but deserving students was established; "Pagdiriwang" was staged in celebration of our alma mater’s 75th Foundation Day; the Cagayan De Oro Chapter was established; the commemorative stamp in celebration of the 75th Foundation Day was issued.

     Ms. Janet Kopio served as the president from 1998-2000. During her term, the construction of the Science Building in the Annex Campus was completed; the US West Coast Chapter and the Davao Chapter were established. In 1999, the PCHS Dance Troupe attended the Beijing International Tourism and Cultural Festival.

 

     Mr. Alberto Lu served as the president from 2000-2002. During his term, the Central West US Chapter and the Bacolod Chapter were established. Members of the Alumni Association attended the inauguration of both chapters, and the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Canada Chapter. They also visited the alumni in Iloilo, Bacolod, and Cebu. The first alumni photography exhibit was held; the most recent three batches of alumni were contacted for a Christmas reunion at the main campus.

 

     Mr. Peter Gaisano served as the president from 2002-2004. Under his leadership, several activities in celebration of our alma mater’s 80th Foundation Day were held, among these are the spectacular cultural presentation “PCHS at 80”, the 1st Interschool Alumni Basketball Invitational Tournament, and the 80th anniversary commemorative plate.

 

     Mr. Sy Uliong served as the president from 2004-2006. He led a local delegation of 54 members to attend the induction ceremony of new officers of the West Coast chapter in Las Vegas last April 2006. During his term, the Iloilo chapter was also established.

 

     The incumbent president Mr. Angel Tan recently led a delegation of 54 members to visit the Cebu chapter. The trip had positive results. Mr. Tan currently plans to develop efficient means of establishing contact with alumni here in the Philippines and abroad. As a part of this effort, the PCHS Alumni Association website was developed.

 

     Since its re-organization in 1976, the Alumni Association has had 12 presidents who are all outstanding products of our alma mater. They have all made their contributions during their respective terms, uniting alumni, strengthening the coordination among alumni, and assisting in the development of our alma mater. They have actively conducted al kinds of activities, such as sports and cultural activities, the annual alumni homecoming, the mid-autumn festival get together, the luncheon party for the silver and the golden jubilarians, the welcome luncheon for the incoming alumni, the Christmas reunion for the most recent three batches of alumni, and the luncheon party in honor of the teachers, etc. Moreover, the Alumni Association has continued to provide Alumni Scholarship to honor students, and financial assistance to more than 330 students every year. It has also sponsored medical missions for the neighborhood residents both in the Main and the Annex campuses. It coordinated with several batches of alumni in conducting free medical checkups for all the faculty and staff, and medical assistance to some alumni and teachers. It participated in the disaster relief operations and in the anti-kidnapping campaigns.

 

     Annually the Alumni Association sponsors the alumni basketball tournament, bowing tournament, and golf tournament. It also participates in sports competitions held OFF CAMPUS. It publishes PCHS Alumni Journal, gives out beautiful calendar every year, conducts medical lectures, organizes the Alumni Dance Troupe, the Alumni Harmonica Group, and the Alumni Orchestra Group.

 

     For more than 20 years, with the all-out support and assistance of the Alumni Association, our alma mater develops into an institution with modern educational facilities conducive to learning, an institution where the faculty and staff enjoy abundant benefits.
