MANILA, Philippines — A student from Philippine Cultural College–Caloocan brought pride and honor to her school after securing third place in the Youth Group category of the 2026 “Cultural China · Water Cube Cup” Chinese Song Contest Philippine Regional Finals held on May 10 at the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry building in Manila.

The event, themed “Sound Moving the World, Music with Me,” was co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. It gathered members of the Filipino-Chinese community, students, parents, and educators in a celebration of music and Chinese culture.

Among the 15 finalists who advanced from the semifinals, Ang, Maria Aneeka (洪美佳) stood out with her heartfelt and emotionally rich performances. Representing PCC-Caloocan, she impressed judges and audiences alike with her stage presence and expressive vocals.

In the semifinals, Ang performed the song “Love That Never Fails,” captivating the panel with her soft and refined voice. During the finals, she showcased her versatility and emotional depth through the song “What More Do You Want from Me,” delivering powerful transitions from gentle whispers to soaring high notes. Her performance earned warm applause from the audience and secured her a place among the top winners of the competition.

Officials from the Chinese Embassy and Filipino-Chinese organizations attended the event to encourage young performers. Consul Sun Qian emphasized in his speech that the “Water Cube Cup” continues to serve as a bridge connecting Chinese communities around the world through music and culture.

The judging panel consisted of respected musicians and cultural figures, including Li Kaihua, Huang Jingyi, Ke Meiqi, Yan Xinxin, and Ke Meizhi, ensuring professionalism and fairness throughout the competition.

At the conclusion of the event, Principal Dr. Polly Wee Sy, representing the Association of Filipino-Chinese Schools in the Philippines, announced the official results. Li Yingyi won first place, followed by Lin Lingchan in second place, while Ang, Maria Aneeka secured third place.

Organizers also announced a special reward system for representatives who will compete in the global finals, with cash prizes amounting to ₱300,000 for gold medalists, ₱200,000 for silver medalists, and ₱100,000 for bronze medalists.

The competition highlighted not only the musical talents of Filipino-Chinese youth but also the continuing growth of Chinese language education and cultural appreciation overseas. PCC expressed immense pride in Ang’s accomplishment, recognizing her as an inspiration to fellow students and a shining example of dedication, talent, and cultural pride.
